About

Dick and his now deceased wife moved to Stone Creek in December of 2019.


Dick is a retired physician, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, the Medical School at the University of Maryland and the Residency training at the SIU School of Medicine. In 1978 after marrying the love of his life Debbie, he established a private practice in General Internal Medicine here in Springfield. After 13 years in Private Practice, he joined the SIU School of Medicine in 1991. Along with a wife, two daughters and 4 cats, he then did a one-year Fellowship in Geriatrics in 1994 at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, returning to SIU School of Medicine to establish a Geriatrics Division. He retired as a Full Professor in 2010.


Debbie was a Decatur native, a graduate of Lakeview High School and was in the last class of Diploma Nurses at Memorial Medical Center. She became a Registered Nurse and worked at all three Springfield hosptals (Memorial, St. Johns and Doctors) during her nursing tenure. She also became a Certified Quality Assurance Professional and worked in the Quality Assure Offices of both Memorial and Doctors Hospitals. In between her 45 years of nursing experience, she was a devoted spouse, housewife, and mother of two daughters. She retired from nursing in 2018. In April of 2020 she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and died at home in the presence of her family with Memorial Hospice Care in March of 2022.


Since her death, her younger daughter has made her a grandmother for the third time 2 granddaughters and one grandson.
